It really is. Stormy, that is…as in major tornadoes and all. Having lived through several tornadoes in my life, green skies make me nervous. As do multiple radio weather alerts.
But before the storms, there was…
THE DAY
Ah, I could feel myself slowing down again today because a) I didn’t want to be derivative and b) I also really, really needed to understand the way in which I envisioned this particular plague/disease playing out.
As it happened, a book I needed came in to the library today, so that was good. Does mean that the husband and I had a very interesting conversation on the differences between when someone has actually had smallpox versus having been vaccinated with the Jenner vaccine.
Anyway, it was a fine, if a little frustrating, day. That is, I wish I’d gotten a few more words done, but I also have to keep reminding myself that I have a) done this book in various incarnations three times now and b) always run into a roadblock because I haven’t really thought through what has to happen and how things work and that is because c) I haven’t outlined.
So, patience, Skywalker, patience.
My, this is a much better storm shelter than I had in Wisconsin. The one there, I always worried about this one window. Here, it’s like you could live through War of the Worlds. (Actually, there was one FABULOUS shelter in this house in Madison we were seriously flirting with. I mean, it was GOOD. We weren’t as thrilled with the neighborhood, but this was one nice house and one great we-shall-live-through-nuclear-holocaust shelter.)

What I’m Watching:
Back to The Americans, which is a very good, if somewhat slow (at times), show. But I do like it (and John Rhys is devilishly handsome). I am also intrigued by Motive, if only because Louis Ferreira, who was SO BLOODY GOOD in Stargate Universe is a lead. So I grabbed the first episode from Season One to watch, probably, Saturday or Sunday. I aim to swim tomorrow, and then my mother-in-law is visiting.

What I’m Reading:
The Shaman’s Coat by Anna Reid; fascinating study of Siberian natives. Also holding multiple FB conversations with various people at the same time–and the best is one I’m having with a mom and then with her daughter, who just happen to be in the same room. Like ten feet apart–and I’m having separate conversations with them. (One all about lust, the other all about serious stuff.)

What I’m Listening to:
At the moment? Alarms, telling me to head to the basement. Power is out southeast of us; the valley is dark.
I am also listening to a very sweet librarian who took a chance and told me what she really thinks–and she’s right. Bubbeleh, nu, when you’re right, you’re right.
