Broke that Streak

Dang.

THE DAY

We were invited out to a Friday night dinner with the Chabadniks and so I was out last night until very late.  When we got home, I simply tumbled into bed.  Totally forgot about blogging until about 1 a.m., and then thought, Don’t be so obsessed.

So I missed a day.  Dang.  OTOH, it wasn’t much of a day to write home about.  I spent all day tussling out plot threads.  Only this morning did I finally hash that out with the husband, and we both agreed: better to stick with a single timeline, a single thread rather than trying to weave two together.  I could make it work, but I don’t want to force anything.  The story should flow naturally, and there really is enough happening in one thread that another thread would be . . . well, maybe redundant.  Cross-cutting between action scenes is much different than cross-cutting between scenes in two, unrelated locales which still pretty much end up at the same place with the same denouement.

That means axing two entire plot threads.  Believe me, that hurts.  OTOH, again, it’s been only about 8-10 days since reinventing this thing and only a few since that fortuitous find that unlocked the narrative.  So that’s not bad.  It’s just what happens when you write, I guess.

And one of these days, I really WILL figure out how to make two outlines work at once.  So far, I’ve not had that much luck with that, have I?  Or maybe it was a mind game I was playing to take the pressure off this book: make it less important and not so life-and-death.

Still didn’t manage to write much today.  Maybe…500 words?  It was a life maintenance day, and looking ahead, I don’t know about tomorrow either.  I have a scavenger hunt page to build.

Other than that, the only other thing to really cross my radar is this whole Cruz affair thing.  Now, do I think the National Enquirer is just this stunning journalistic icon?  Of course not. Do they sometimes get it right (as with Jackson, Edwards, OJ Simpson, and Hart)?  Yes, but they still get things wrong more often than they get them right.

Having said that–and I really couldn’t care less if Cruz had multiple affairs (though the fact that NE provided blurred photos of women, three of whom have been identified, does give one pause because they either have to be really confident they won’t get slapped with a libel or slander lawsuit, or simply don’t care–and so you think, yeah, the guy probably did).  Nonetheless, I hope this torpedoes Cruz’s campaign.  Forget the fact that the guy’s kind of psychotic in terms of foreign policy (though you do have to wonder whether he’s been cribbing from the Donald).  He’s a sanctimonious, self-righteous, holier-than-thou bigot, who’s cloaked himself in this evangelical mantle.  So I hope this ends his candidacy.  I hope he’s exposed as a hypocrite.  I hope this and the Donald makes all those Republicans who really thought that either of those clowns is a good idea for president to take a step back and rethink just what their party is supposed to stand for. Right now, it seems to stand for bigotry, hatred, and repression.

What I’m Watching:
House of Cards.  Season 4 is definitely better than its predecessor.
***
What I’m Reading:
More articles on indigenous peoples of Siberia.  Also a fascinating thesis of the huntin and butchering patterns of these tribes.  Did you know that you need to pierce the back of a bear’s eyes and then eat them so its spirit doesn’t see what you’re doing?

What I’m Listening to:
NCAA Elite Eight.  Missed the WI game yesterday but probably just as well.

  1. I totally agree with your thoughts about Trump, Cruz, and the Republican Party. Will be so relieved when people generally come to their senses, if they ever do.
