In Brief

For real.  I got a plane to catch tomorrow.

THE DAY

Spent most of the day either thinking about or actively writing and then tearing apart and rewriting the new plot, characters, and direction.  This much is true: writers spend most of their time writing or thinking about writing. In my case, it meant repositioning and reimagining: coming up with new settings, new names, the whole nine yards.

So that process is slow.  It just is.  Once you get the characters set, you hope the outline goes a little better.  But I’m not there yet.  Plus, I keep having to take time to research this and that.  Slows you down.

I have also discovered this, yet again: far more frequently than not, people here with whom you’ve set up an appointment do not show and do not call.  I give that kind of nonsense two tries before I move on.  The problem is that moving on isn’t necessarily better.  For whatever reason, people don’t return calls here or show up.  It’s kind of mind-boggling.  (In one case, I understand.  I might lie low if I thoroughly screwed the pooch on a job, too.  But then don’t expect me to a) call you again or b) recommend you to anyone else.)  But this is frustrating.  I had a very reliable cadre of folks I could call back in Wisconsin.  Here . . . not so much, and finding them is tough to begin with.

Anyway, being the responsible person that I am, made sure to be where I said I would be at the right time, even though it was inconvenient.  The other person?  Not so much.  So, thanks; I love wasting my time.

Then worked on the talk, packed, practiced the talk. Taking the computer and hope to get some work done.  Long plane rides tomorrow.

What I’m Watching:
Nothing.  Swam.

What I’m Reading:
Rez Life; Nine Years Under; Embalming: History, Theory, and Practice by Robert Mayer; Winter Study by Nevada Barr (I’ve read this before, but I wanted a bit of a refresher.  That–and I need to sit somewhere quiet and reconstruct all the hikes I’ve done.)

What I’m Listening to:
Bernie Saunders can’t become president.  He just can’t.  The accent’s going to kill me.
Trump was his usual insufferable I’m so wonderful, everybody loves me self on CNN.
And people are actually looking for reasons to like Cruz and thinking that, maybe, he’s not so bad.  Compared to Trump, Cruz scares me more–because I think he believes what he says.
