Sick Day

THE DAY

When you’re sick, you’re sick.  In my case, I’ve been battling migraines the last few days.  I know the reason why and it means some monkeying around with meds, but it also means not sleeping, waking up from what little sleep I get with a crushing migraine, then taking meds and waiting for them to catch up so I can try and get some sleep.

Anyway, my brain’s running on empty today.  I did try to work; got maybe 250 words or so, but nothing to crow about.  So in between dosing myself with meds, fretting about not working, running on empty, and then trying to read while also making a truly ugly Sunday’s Cake…it wasn’t the best day.

But I did try.  This is actually my second cake of the weekend–a Beet and Beer Red Velvet, but there’s nothing remotely red about it save that beet powder which, IMHO, only makes the cake look bloody.  Next time, I go back to red dye and maybe red sugar.  The batter was really excellent, so I know the cake tastes good.  It’s just . . . ugly.  And I’m pissed.  OTOH, I also have a migraine, so…

The first cake of the weekend was yesterday’s Chocolate Cinnamon Spice with bourbon-orange marmalade glaze and walnuts.

What I’m Watching:
Blacklist.  Then I watched a documentary on von Braun, Missile to Moon.  Pretty interesting, though I knew most of it.  I think the documentary was very even-handed and raised important questions, but I can see why the guy’s revered here.  Like all driven people, I’m not so certain that he acted only out of altruism; there was a fair degree of self-interest involved, and he wanted to make Huntsville much more cosmopolitan to attract and keep top engineers. I get that, and like I said, I see why people respect him.

What I’m Reading:
Home late last night, and too sick today to read.  Hard to concentrate, but I’ll try to get something done this evening along the lines of what I have been pursuing. Or I might just have to knock off and read something for pleasure instead of information.  I could go back to Pet Sematary, see if I can get past some of the rough patches.

What I’m Listening to:
Serial, episode 4.  Decided to give it another chance.  But this season is definitely lackluster.

Okay, I’m going to bed.  Hope I actually sleep and don’t wake up with another headache.
