They can really screw you over.
THE DAY
So it wasn’t the best writing day. Not a horrible one, but I’d really expected to be further along. I think it’s because that one character who decided to show up misbehaved and threw a monkey wrench into the works. So I spent several hours trying to work the narrative in a way that made sense (notice that I didn’t say the way I thought it should go). Narratives have to be internally consistent, and I’d really boxed in one character where he really wouldn’t stand a chance of getting out. Of course, I didn’t realize that until I walked away…but at least I figured it out.
Did I waste a day? No. I took a wrong turn, I guess. But it does, once again, beg the question of writing into the dark, which I actually dislike. I find that I waste too much time and “looping back” to tie things together gets confusing.
Doesn’t help, of course, that I had to leave to do the gym thing before I wanted to and, earlier, assembled dinner in a crockpot fully INTENDING to get back to work this evening. But then a daughter called with whom I’ve not spoken in a while and … well … family comes first.
Dang. I’m frustrated. What the heck is this character doing anyway?

What I’m Watching:
Finished the first Worricker and on to the next. Do I like it as much as the first? No. Will I keep watching? Sure. Until something better comes along, I guess. I’m singularly unimpressed by most TV fare these days.

What I’m Listening to:
I got to listen to a book! This is getting ridiculous.
