Screwing Your Butt to the Chair

THE DAY

I actually did that pretty much all day to make up for yesterday.  Boy, you know when you’ve been putting in the hours and work because not only is your watch nagging at you to get up and move, but your butt is SORE.  I remember watching a PBS biography of Dickens years back (with Roy Dotrice; a great Dickens) and he mentioned getting hemorrhoids as an occupational hazard.  Not saying this is the SAME, mind you, but I feel his pain 😉

So the day was . . . mostly about work.  I think it helped that the husband was away this evening for an event which meant that I didn’t have to blast back from the gym to start dinner or wait around, languishing until he came home.  I just did my thing.  I toyed with the idea of making a cake because–yes–tomorrow is another one of those life maintenance (doctor’s appointment) and obligation days (a dinner with a colleague of the husband but at their house, and my mother taught me never to go empty-handed), but then decided to screw it: I’ll pick up some nice candy or something.  There’s actually not a bad little place not far from here: Pizelle’s Confections.  Might stop there, pick up a box of chocolates.  Maybe sample a couple myself 😉

Otherwise, gymed, wrote, fed birds.  Actually, a whole passel of doves were waiting all in a row on the railing this morning for me to get a move on.  By the time I managed a snap, all but three had taken off:

Also, a gray day, completely socked in.  But that was actually fine.  I prefer it that way.  Then there’s nothing to look at, no distractions.  Just the rain and the fog and my manuscript.

Oh, and this from the daughter in Washington, D.C.: the Whole Foods ravaged by folks preparing for the impending Snow Apocalypse.

What I’m Watching:
Started a new series, Fortitude.  Made it through two episodes so far and I like it.

***
What I’m Reading:
Pet Sematary.  Slowly.  I just don’t have much time at night, and I’m not making the time.  C’est la vie.
***
What I’m Listening to:
Still nothing, though I’m sorely tempted to revisit a Lucas Davenport novel or maybe a new book (new to me, at any rate) on Operation Paperclip (essentially how the Nazi rocket scientists made it here).
