Back at It

THE DAY

After yesterday’s rushed entry, my husband wondered why I’m bothering with this blog in quite this way.  Like I said, this is mainly for me to keep track of what I do.  Accountability, I guess. So I’m back at it.

With days of very few words behind me, I figured that I needed to get back on track.  Only problem was that I also had this cover assignment due (deadline’s midnight tonight). While it’s true that the sun won’t go nova if I don’t make the deadline, I really wanted to.  So I had worked on this last night (and glad I had; there was a lot of material to get through and assimilate and none of it obvious; they give out masters degrees in graphic design, you know.  Also the videos were unbelievably stuttery and glitchy; I must’ve aged at least five years wading through some and never did make it through all of them because I needed to get started on the work.)  InDesign is not an easy program by any means, but I would also say that I get sort of annoyed when I shell out money for a course only to be told that if I need more information that I should go over to another site, shell out more money so I can learn to use a program for which I’m also shelling out money . . . It just gets old.

But, anyway, I worked on that for the first two hours of the day after having worked on it for about four hours last night (long enough for the husband to go to bed, and I’m always in bed first).  Not too bad.  I would like to learn how to better blend elements, add some transparency, and there must be some kind of snip tool for getting rid of certain portions of an image.  But, anyway, not too horrible. (Obviously, they’re all supposed to be lined up into a single spread, but I couldn’t get WordPress to accept this as a pdf, which is what you export to CreateSpace, so you get jpegs.  Whatever…you get the drift.)

Contractor came over to look at some parts of the house that need repair (doors, a leaky area in the garage).  Then settled into working.  I’d already gone back and done what worked before: organizing the chapter into different beats and sections so I know where I’m headed.  Did concentrated solid work for about four hours until I had to leave for the gym.  Did my usual gym stuff; then home, leftovers for dinner, and now it’s nearly 9.

But no football!!  I always hate this point in every year when the season’s gearing down. :<P  I wish I could figure out another sport.  An Aussie friend’s suggested rugby.  Might have to give it a try. I can’t stand soccer and the only thing I like about basketball is March Madness.

What I’m Watching:

Believe it or not, Captain America.  The monster said it was the better of the recent spate of comic book superhero movies.  It was entertaining.  I can’t say I’d want to run right out and see the next one on the basis of this, though.

Also gave Dying of the Light another try because I do like Nicolas Cage.  It wasn’t bad.  Predictable, but not bad.

What I’m Reading:

A couple short stories last night before bed, and only one of them that made a semi-impression on me (something by Jack Finney).  So I’m chucking that anthology.  Got Handling the Undead by Lindqvist on the nightstand, though.

What I’m Listening to:

Handling the Undead.  Not bad so far; not as good as Let Me In, but that was also a different kind of story.
