Family

THE DAY

Since I knew a daughter would be coming in today, got up early, caffeinated, worked on the book a bit, and then it was time to head over to the gym for a quick workout (only 75 minutes today).  Then out to the airport to pick up the daughter.  Good to see the little monster, that’s for sure.  Spent the rest of the day doing family stuff.  Then home, ice the cake for a party this evening, and then out to that.  Just got home about a half hour ago (yes, we turn into pumpkins well before midnight) and I’ll be turning in soon.

Will I get a lot of writing done this weekend?  Probably not.  Just the way it goes.  I’ll be lucky to bang out a couple hundred words a day.  It is what it is, and it’s not as if I see the monster every day.

So I’m not complaining?  But I’d probably feel better if I could get some work done, too. When you’re self-employed, every day you don’t produce is a day you don’t get paid.  But it isn’t even that.  It’s that not staying busy with writing reminds me of where I am and how much I’d rather be elsewhere, and that’s no good.

Cake wasn’t too shabby: Cardamom Spice w/Brown Butter Vanilla-Rosewater Glaze and pistachios.  Went over well tonight.

Otherwise, the day was kind of a wash.  I might try to focus on the cover design thing instead since that assignment–whatever it is this week–will likely take time and be due by midnight Tuesday. So not tons of time there.

What I’m Watching:

Danny Collins: read good stuff about this in NYTimes, and so decided to give it a try.  About halfway through, and it’s not bad at all.  What I find most refreshing is how unlike Al Pacino Al Pacino can be when he puts his mind to it.

What I’m Reading:

Farfelled around with a couple different things; found nothing that kept my attention.  Then, decided to give Lindqvist’s second book, Handling the Undead, a try.  Only gotten a few pages into it, so I can’t really tell if this is going to be any good.

What I’m Listening to:

On the theory that the book might be good, I decided to give the audiobook of the Lindqvist a try.  I like the narrator, so why not?  Just haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet.
