THE DAY
Woke up this morning from a terrible dream where I wandered into a classroom only to discover that everyone was taking a test and not only had I missed that test, but I’d never gone to class and missed all ten tests before that–and with a horrible migraine.
So the day didn’t start out pretty. Unfortunately, it also didn’t get much better. Even with meds and hydration, the headache hung around until just about an hour or so ago. I wasn’t completely debilitated, but I also only managed about 380 words. So I pretty much gave up around noon-ish, figuring I had to exercise, shop, and then bake a cake this evening for an event tomorrow. That’s what I did.
The dream? Gosh, I don’t know. My husband says I always dream of failure and not being prepared and then being humiliated when I’m feeling intimidated by something or someone (in this case, the book, I think). Which is odd considering that I felt pretty good yesterday. Hit my targets; got my work done. (Even heard back from the teacher in that design class who liked the cover but also had good suggestions.) Now, I’ve not heard anything from the editor about my proposal. But that shouldn’t be enough to shake me.
So…getting back to the book did . . . has? I’d hate to think so because then you’d have to wonder what the hell I’ve been doing.
That just can’t be it. I hope.
Baked that cake, though: cardamom rosewater cream. Tomorrow, I’ll glaze it with a cardamom rosewater butter, sprinkle it with some chopped pistachios.
One daughter is blowing into town tomorrow, too, so I assume that not a lot’s going to get done in the next several days. :<P
God, I need to cut myself a break.

What I’m Watching:
Started two movies during my workout and quickly pitched them. Decided to go back to The Man in the High Castle, though not because it’s just that compelling. It was just the easier choice of the lot for the moment.

What I’m Reading:
Finished Let Me In last night. Very inventive. Starting in on either Charnel House by Fred Anderson or returning to The Euthanist by Alex Dolan. Just depends on what’s my fancy, I guess. OTOH, my head’s still aching, so maybe just bed tonight. We’ll see.

What I’m Listening to:
Started The Haunting Season by Michelle Muto and only made it through two chapters before I gave up. I don’t know if the story is any good; right now, my head’s aching extra from that gawd-awful narrator. (This is how a crap narrator can ruin an otherwise fine story.) I might give the ebook a go instead.
So changed over to a collection of Richard Masteron short stories, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. Read by a variety of people. Like every other writer, some stories are okay and others are crummy. But at least I could listen without getting a worse headache than I already have. Really, I got to find another great listen.
