Before the Storm

Which is raging now, actually. We’ve known this has been coming all day.  The airwaves were all abuzz.  So I planned my day around the idea that I might be making a trip into the storm cellar.

This also meant that I got precious little writing done.  Yes, I got in words and that’s good. But I’m thinking that tomorrow, I must get through this section and move on.

There is also this, though, as I mentioned on Facebook to some friends: it’s very hard and almost daunting when you’re rethought and reimagined a character so completely that you have to rewrite the whole damn thing.

OTOH, it’s also exciting.

THE DAY

Bolted out of bedat 7:15 and very late (for me) and then raced around, getting dressed, getting the requisite caffeine together before shooting out the door.  I was still late for the car appointment and paid for it with an almost two hour wait.  That was okay; I had stuff to read for the anthology.  So, did that, and the time passed quickly enough.

Except then it was past 10 when I staggered back home.  Took me about a half hour to get settled enough to start to think about writing.  Then started pounding out words.  Decided not to swim because that would’ve meant leaving off at 12:30 instead of 2, and I wanted to make up for lost time.

Finally stopped at 2, raced out of the house to exercise, did my 90 minutes and even saw the husband and a friend in the process.  Then spent another hour and a half jetting around town on errands (UPS, bird seed, dinner stuff). While I was doing this–we’re talking about 4:30 now–the sky just got blacker and blacker.  It also got very still, and I was, like, oh shit.  Because I’ve lived through tornadoes.  Heck, I was BORN during one.  The only thing that made me feel a little better: the sky didn’t get green.

Seriously.  The sky goes green before a tornado.  I’m serious.

Anyway, made it home in the PITCH BLACK.  Then worked until it was time to deal with dinner.  Worked after dinner, too.

All in all,not a BAD day but not one for the record books.

What I’m Watching:

Finally finished Fargo.  The second season was only okay.  Way too cute for its own good.  They need to stop mistaking style for story.

Then saw the first episode of The Expanse on SyFy.  Not bad, actually; I’ve actually tried reading the book (Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey) but wasn’t grabbed.  No matter; I thought that the SyFy channel did a pretty nice job for once.  The episode was a little packed, but there were a lot of character arcs to introduce.  The only recognized, bankable star of the bunch is Thomas Jane (whom I ADORE; gosh, he was great in HUNG), and he’s quite good.  But the entire cast is pretty decent. Where this would go, though, I don’t know.  I don’t get SyFy and the episodes aren’t available for streaming, so…we’ll see if i can figure something out.

Also began watching Interstellar, a movie I completely passed over because it just looked too . . . let’s-get-mystical to me.  So, the first fifteen minutes are okay. So far.  I’ll finish and let you know.

What I’m Reading:

Still, the anthology for a pitch.

What I’m Listening to:

Let Me In; getting near the end, feels like.  Quite a nice take on vampires, a trope I tend to avoid.
