THE DAY
So I worked until late yesterday, got in scads of words, tumbled into bed, and immediately popped awake a few hours later, fretting over plot details. What I realized was that I’d so completely and massively rewritten the front end of the book that nothing I’d done on the back end made sense any more and–by the way–I needed to weave in stories I hadn’t before. I needed to show the gun from the get-go, which I hadn’t/haven’t because as much as I think I’ve thought this book through…well, clearly, I haven’t. Or the book that’s meant to be is finding me . . . I don’t know.
And that’s what I thought about at 3 this morning and kept thinking about until, maybe 5:30 or so when I snuck in a half hour or so. I honestly didn’t think I’d slept at all, but the husband said I was snoring. (He also convinced me to stop reading at 4:30 and come back to bed.)
Today, I was a wreck–a good wreck, sort of–but still a wreck. I thought about writing, but then figure that, no, I’d just rip up anything I did and besides, I really DID need for what I’d been thinking about so hard to marinate for a day. So I jotted down notes, did some reading, and then baked a couple cakes for a party tomorrow night. (Tomorrow, I’ll be pretty tied up: obligations pretty much all day.). Also decided to get cracking on my next covers workshop assignment, listened to a few of those videos. Went to the gym; did only 70 minutes of aerobics but 30 minutes of strength, so it balances out. Then had a nice quiet dinner out with the husband.
But that was the day. No writing–and that’s okay. (I really WAS a wreck.) This is one of those pregnant pauses–something that I know will yield something tomorrow. Just need to give it time to mature.

What I’m Watching:
Fargo (made it through to Ep. 4; I’m still not sold…but I’m also still watching).
And no: I’m not seeing Star Wars this weekend. Might see The Martian. We’ll see.

What I’m Reading:
Believe it or not…I was too tired to read much last night, and I’m so pooped tonight, I’ll probably throw the cats into the basement and call it a day. Tomorrow.

What I’m Listening to;
Let Me In by John Ajvide Lindquist: really getting into this. Very clever conceit that I wish I’d thought of.
