Yet another nice post by Steve York on ebooks and the lack of covers, which reiterates something I’ve been saying for months to just about anyone who will listen: the fact that ebooks do not have physical covers creates just one more hurdle/gap/chasm for/between a potential reader and the writer. His most cogent point is this:
But in the larger sense, everybody loses, just a little. Book covers are a way of connecting readers with readers, and readers with books, and with ebooks, that’s gone, and there’s nothing obvious to replace it. And that’s a shame.
Not to mention that a cover is a great sales tool . . . and that goes away, too. How many times have you picked up a book by an author you didn’t know because the cover art was eye-catchingly gorgeous?
On a completely different note: turned in the FINAL edits for my YA, now entitled Draw the Dark. I never realized how much work goes into creating that catchy title . . . but I think/hope this is a winner.
And plowing ahead on my current WIP, Ashes, which gets more complex by the moment . . . which, I guess, is a good thing 😉
